NANTWICH elected to bat first at home to Marple but were comfortably beaten in the ECB Premier League on Saturday.

Only an unbeaten knock of 42 from Jack Goode and a 25 from Robert Cook-Sievewright gave the visitors anything to worry about as Nantwich struggled to 105 all out in 31 overs.

Marple had Matthew Whittaker’s six-wicket haul and four maiden overs largely to thank for their strong first innings.

Ashley Shaw took two wickets for the loss of 38 runs in reply, but they were the only two Marple wickets to fall as Nantwich saw their total passed in the 25th over.

Wistaston slipped to a four-wicket loss at the Groves in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One.

Batting first, the visitors put on 177 for 9 in their allotted overs with contributions from opener Mike Chester, 37, Paul Owen, 43, and Keith Thornhill, 32.

The visitors started promisingly after tea with the Groves at 23 for 2, but two wickets apiece for Thornhill, Mike Kingdom and James Hogben proved too little.

Haslington were put into bat by Trafford Metrovics but stormed to victory in Division Three by 98 runs.

Ben Leigh took his total to 161 runs so far this season with a top score of 43 with the bat, complemented by a steady innings from Tom Gledhill, 21.

Gledhill again proved deadly with ball in hand as he dismissed five Trafford batsmen for 16 runs in an 11-over spell, backed up by Ben Istead with 2 for 12.

Crewe Vagrants eased their way past hosts Hanford on Saturday in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Championship Division Three A.

Phillip Marsh smashed his way to 58 in 42 balls, while Mark Hurst, 44, and George Harding, 23, helped Vagrants to a total of 227.

Harding then took five wickets for seven runs on the way to skittling Hanford for 66, Shahid Mahboob, 3 for 40, and Mike Cox, 1 for 13, completing the rout.
