NEW recruit Patrick Ada is aiming to make a huge impact in the Alex promotion push next season.
The 24-year-old centre-half became Gudjohn Thordarson’s first signing of the summer when he put pen to paper on a two-year deal last month.
Arriving on a free, Ada was relatively hot property after two fine seasons with Blue Square Premier outfit Histon.
Hailing from Cameroon, the towering defender had other offers but opted for Crewe after being impressed with the club.
Ada believes they’ll be fighting at the right end of the table and wants to make a shirt his own.
“I have come to Crewe for the challenge,” he explained.
“The manager made it clear he wants to bounce back at the first attempt and I want to be a part of that plan.
“I think I have proved myself in the lower leagues and think I am ready to make that step up now.
“I think I can do it in the league and I think the manager will help me improve and take me to that next level in my development.”
FA Cup heroes Histon went close to promotion to the Football League and six-footer Ada made 46 appearances last season.
The former Barnet and Exeter man brings power, pace and aggression to the party and can also operate at right-back or in midfield.
He is excited to get started.
“When I heard Crewe were interested I couldn’t wait to get here,” he added.
“The training ground and the facilities are first class and my mind was made up.
“There were two or three Football League clubs interested but I knew Crewe was the place for me.
“I have a strong desire to win and I think I’ll fit in straight away.”
While Ada arrives, out-of-contract Danny Woodards could be on his way to League One Colchester United.
The 25-year-old made no secret of his desire to leave as he looks to move closer to his native London.
But he wishes Crewe well and believes they’ll bounce back straight away.
“I told Gudjohn if he had come to the club a bit sooner then I might have stayed,” said Woodards.
“It was a big decision to move on but I have missed living in London close to family.
“I enjoyed playing at Crewe although it could have ended better than it did.
“But I think they will bounce back, it will be easy for them in League Two.”
