Description

This course covers a wide range of skills, including how to draft financial statements for limited companies, perform complex management accounting tasks and develop your management skills. The AAT Level 4 Diploma also includes a choice of specialist units which means you can focus on and specialise in the areas of accounting that interest you most. The Level 4 qualification is approximately equivalent to the 1st year of an honours degree.

Course Content

    To gain the Level 4 Diploma, you will need to pass four compulsory units and two optional units. Compulsory units:

  • Budgeting
  • Financial Performance
  • Internal Control and Systems Optional units
  • Credit Management and Control
  • Personal Tax
  • Business Tax
  • External Auditing

The AAT is the leading professional body for Accounting Technicians, with over 100,000 members worldwide. You can use the AAT level 4 Diploma in Accounting to support entry onto a degree or to study with one of the chartered accountancy organisations – in fact, this is the only professional qualification that allows progression to chartered status and one in twelve chartered accountants started off studying AAT. AAT Level 4 gives entry to and/or exemptions from the following: * Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) * The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) * The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) * The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) * The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) * Many degree courses at universities and other higher education (HE) institutions

Qualification

Completing the AAT Level 4 Diploma gives you full Accounting Technician status and opens the door to a huge variety of accounting jobs within different types of organisations. As a qualified accounting professional in a smaller business, you might be the only member of staff who is an expert in finance. In a larger company you might be part of a wider financial team. Example roles include Accounts Manager or Assistant Finance Manager, which can earn a potential salary of £48,260 per year * (*Source: www.payscale.com, May 2011).

Course length

You should be able to complete each of the six required units in around 300 hours. You will be required to complete three to five assignments per unit as well as eight computer based exams at a local test centre.
