ORIGINALLY pegged to be the game that would save the ailing series, Turok is finally back but can't quite live up to the hype.
Taken out of the hands of its former developer, Acclaim by Propaganda Games, everything seemed to point to a fresh start for the game series but unfortunately average is the best it can do.
In a typically Xbox-friendly plot which strays miles from its excellent origins, Turok the dinosaur hunter now curiously seems to have become a space marine hunting a rogue soldier called Roland Kane.
In fact, the only time it really feels like a Turok game is when you are hunting dinosaurs with a knife and this is the best element of the experience.
This is a shame because Turok was one of the landmark game series for the Nintendo 64 featuring ridiculously awesome weaponry like a handheld nuclear weapon and the brilliantly named cerebral bore'.
The best this can muster is a flamethrower and endless waves of generic enemies.
That said, it's fun for a short while and is still worth a rent if you're a first person shooter fan.
