Former Neighbours star Margot Robbie has revealed how she mastered an American accent for her latest film with the help of an unlikely tip from a voice coach.

The Australian actress, who got her Hollywood break in The Wolf Of Wall Street, appears alongside Will Smith in Focus, in which the pair play a couple of con artists.

She told chat show host Graham Norton: “My acting coach said to pretend I had just had acrylic nails put on and then the accent and attitude would come and it totally worked.”

Margot was joined on the show, which is on BBC One tomorrow, by co-star Will as well as David Beckham, Hugh Jackman and Noel Gallagher.

She also revealed how an eating competition involving a “bucket load” of spaghetti once caused her problems during her Ramsay Street days, saying: “I was working on Neighbours at the time and they said, ‘Lunch break’s over, you’ve got to go to set,’ and I couldn’t move.

“The nurse had to be called and she gave me the stuff they give toddlers if they swallow poison. I projectile vomited 1.8 kilos of spaghetti and then skipped on to set – I felt fine.”
