Russell Brand could be taking on the role of a more traditional hero - a real-life swashbuckler - in a new film.
The funnyman, 35, who is currently filming the Arthur remake, has set up Hawkwood, another possible comedy project, Deadline.com reports.
John Hawkwood was a morally challenged but gifted swordsman who was paid to lead European armies during the Renaissance wars.
Russell took the idea to Fox comedy head Nicky Weinstock.
Fox then hired a writer, Jared Stern, to start penning a screenplay with the British star's unique style in mind for the title role.
If it gets developed, Get Him To The Greek star Russell will also produce the action comedy, which is being set up at 20th Century Fox, Deadline.com said.
