Lindsay Lohan's latest movie, Machete, is opening the Venice International Film Festival.

The action film directed by Robert Rodriguez - which stars Danny Trejo with Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson and Robert De Niro, as well as featuring Li-Lo - will have its world premiere at the festival.

The plot revolves around the character Machete, played by US actor Danny, who sets out to clear his name and expose a deep conspiracy after finding a web of corruption and deceit that leaves a bullet in a Senator.

Rodriguez also wrote and produced the movie, conceived as an expansion of the faux Grindhouse trailer, and filmed in autumn 2009.

The filmmaker is credited as the man who wrote a new chapter in the history of action movies. His films include El Mariachi (1992), From Dusk 'Till Dawn (1996), Once Upon A Time In Mexico (2003) and Sin City (2005).

The 67th Venice International Film Festival runs from September 1 to 11.

Lindsay is currently serving a prison sentence for a probation violation.
