WITH the Crewe and Nantwich by-election coming up on the 22nd, I would like candidates to make commitments about animal experimentation.
A recent survey showed that 66% of people in the UK would like to live in a world where no one wants or thinks we need to experiment upon animals (NfpSynergy, March 2007). Clearly voters are concerned about testing on animals.
I hope that, at the very least, all of the candidates will commit to introducing a cruelty-free purchasing policy for their constituency office - such as using cleaning products that have not been tested on animals, and to support the BUAV's campaign to get the government to ban such testing.
I also hope that candidates will respond to public concern and publicly endorse policies that would start to make huge reductions in the number of animals used in UK laboratories.
Sara Cooper, (Nantwich)
