Biography

MP Since - 2008 (By-election) Majority - 7,860 Born - 26/12/1973. Married, 1 son & 2 daughters. Education - Uppingham; Durham University (Politics and Law).

Previous Occupation - Called to the Bar (1999). Practices family law.

Personal Overview - Won this seat at the 2008 by-election caused by the death of Gwyneth Dunwoody on a large swing from Labour. His victory came in the face of Labour criticism of his allegedly privileged background, as a son of the wealthy Timpson Shoe mending family (his elder brother runs the family business). His family background was unusual in other ways, his parents were foster parents and his background included sharing his family home with 86 other children, who stayed for varying periods of time. This gave him experience of working with vulnerable children, which also motivated him to get involved in politics. Despite only being politically active for a short period of time prior to his election, he was involved in successful local campaigns to assist the Conservatives in taking control of both Vale Royal and Eastleigh Councils in (2006-07). He has also campaigned locally opposing post office closures and organised a 3,000 strong petition.

Political History - Campaign coordinator at the Eddisbury Constituency (2006-07). MP Crewe & Nantwich (2008- by election). Member of the Children, School and Families Committee (2008-).

Characteristics - Member of the Family Law Bar Association. Has completed six marathons and raised money for the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Leighton Hospital. His favourite film is the Shawshank Redemption. He has also written an illustrated children's book.
