GWYNETH Dunwoody's daughter, Tamsin, has been chosen by the Labour Party as its candidate to be Crewe and Nantwich's next MP.
She will now fight the May 22 by-election to try and take the seat her mother held for the last 34 years.
An intensive two-day selection process ended with Tamsin Dunwoody being chosen by the local Labour group at Pebble Brook School tonight.
About 60 applications were made for the candidacy and they were then narrowed down to a manageable shortlist of five with Tamsin Dunwoody emerging as a comfortable winner.
Born in Devon, Ms Dunwoody, aged 49, was educated at the Grey Coat Hospital and the University of Kent.
She served as a Labour member of the National Assembly for Wales representing the constituency of Preseli Pembrokeshire from May 2003.
In October 2005 she was appointed Deputy Minister for Environment, Planning and Countryside and Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Transport in the Welsh Assembly Government.
She trained in the National Health Service and worked in London hospitals for nearly 15 years.
She has also been an adviser to small businesses in west Wales.
Also contesting the by-election will be Edward Timpson (Conservative), Elizabeth Shenton (Liberal Democrat) and Mike Nattrass (United Kingdom Independence Party).

quoteFor the benefit of John Pickworth Tamsin did'nt lose her seat, the Wales Assembly Government lost it for her by coming out with not exactly the brightest idea to put before the electorate coming up to an Assembly Election i.e. a document for discussion on ideas for the reconfiguration of the NHS in Wales fit for the 21st century. The document was seized upon by the opposition in particular the Nationalist Party. Very soon rumours of Hospital closures or downgrading with consequent loss of services/staff affecting the west of Wales were rife.Utterly untrue but a momentum gathered. Public Meetings/Marches took place and the damage done became irreversible for Tamsin. But all this aside it is a constituency that traditionally swings back and forward Tory/Labour.

I am sick of this government - they\\\'ve betrayed me and millions of other poor pensioners round England. How they can tax my pension more just so they can fund a tax cut for the rich is beyond me - I\\\'ll NEVER vote labour again.
