Summer is key to Alex plans

STEVE Holland admits he has a big job on his hands to turn around Crewe Alexandra's decline.

It's going to be no Summer holiday for the beleaguered boss as he hopes to mastermind a major overhaul of both team and fortune.

And boy do they need it after that disgraceful finale against Oldham, barely avoiding relegation thanks to Bournemouth's failure at Carlisle.

What happens over the break is likely to be key to both his future and those season ticket sales.

"Saturday was a reminder of the big job to be done," he said.

"I was expecting a busy summer but we were that angry after the game that it's driving us on to make changes."

"For the team and club to make the progress that we want, it was vital to stay in the league.

"It was a huge relief to everyone.

"But we've got a long way to go to get where we have been in recent years.

"We've not beaten anyone in the top six and we've lost to everyone that's been relegated.

"We've got a busy few weeks ahead."

He knows he operates in a results business and Crewe's haven't been good during his first season in Dario Gradi's shoes.

Would the bullet come if things don't improve?

"In the end I can't control that," he added.

"I've just got to do my best and create a team that is closer to the top of this division.

"Obviously the adjustments made in the summer are very important to that."
