EX-CREWE forward Rodney Jack could be set to join Nantwich Town.

While last year Pav Suhaj made the switch, this time it’s a bonefide Alex legend pulling on the green shirt.

The 35-year-old is currently without a club and pressed claims for a potential deal against Norton (3-1) and his former club on Monday night.

“He’s available and we’ll see what he can give us,” explained boss Steve Davis.

“Clive (Jackson) made the contact with a view to invoving him and he did alright at Norton and against Crewe.

“He’s short of match fitness and it’s a possibilty.”

Tom Pope inspired the Alex to a 2-1 victory over the Dabbers at Newcastle Town’s Lyme Valley Stadium.

Steve Schumacher supplied the big man with the ammunition for a sixth-minute opener but Ashley Carter levelled things up soon after.

Mickey Lennon went close as Nantwich played some decent football while both Schumacher and Colin Daniel fired wide at the other end.

Pope looked to have given his club an interval lead after winning a penalty but Lee Jones produced a great stop to deny Schumacher.

Darren Tinson, Charlie O’Loughlin and Richard Smith were all kept busy in the second-half and Crewe got their winner when Pope was hauled down in the box again.

This time Anthony Elding made no mistake from the spot.

Pope almost cemented a fine performance while Nantwich battled until the end.

“It was a good work out,” added Davis.

“We needed a test because we hadn’t really had one yet.

“We knew Crewe would put a decent side out and although we were a few short, the lads played well and passed the ball around.”

Now Nantwich look to close their pre-season preparations against FC United at Witton Albion tomorrow night, KO 7.45pm.

“We need to pick it up now,” continued Davis.

“We need to establish what our squad is.

“There’s too many to pick from at the moment so we’ll try to whittle it down.

“We’ll go fairly strong against FC United although we wouldn’t want to give all our cards away as we’ve got them in the FA Cup.

“We’ll use it as an exercise to get focused and it’s still nice to win everything you’re involved in.”
