A GANG set upon a man during an unprovoked racist attack in Crewe this morning.

The attack occurred at 5.16am on Friday, December 7, while the man, who is Slovakian, was stood outside his house seeing his girlfriend safely home.

The 23-year-old was watching his girlfriend walk along the road, when he noticed a group of men standing nearby.

As he turned to go back inside, he was approached by the men, who made a racist comment to him, before launching an attack that left him with a badly broken wrist.

Police are appealing for information on the assault, which occurred outside the address in Walthall Street, at its junction with Gainsborough Road.

The men are described as white with English accents. One of them is thought to have been wearing a leather jacket.

DS Jim Boulton said: "This was an unprovoked attacked on an innocent man for what appears to be no other reason than the colour of his skin.

"This type of behaviour is unacceptable and we are determined to catch those responsible.

"If you were passing by Walthall Street at its junction with Gainsborough Road this morning, and witnessed a group of men assaulting a man in the street, or if you have any information that may help with our investigation, please contact us."
