Further HS2 depot details announced
9:47am Wednesday 6th February 2013 in News
More details have emerged about the creation of a railway depot in Crewe
MORE details have emerged about the creation of a railway depot in Crewe along the route of the proposed HS2 high speed railway line.
The depot would beside the Basford Hall sidings and employ a share of the 500 jobs that will be created across four sheds along the western spur of the £32 billion railway.
The Crewe depot will provide a central store and supply point for all engineering material and would provide facilities for rail plant maintenance and rescue and recovery locomotives.
HS2 Ltd Director Leeds, Manchester and Heathrow, Ian Jordan, said: “The depot south of Crewe would be located next to existing railway sidings and be used to maintain the railway infrastructure.
“We are working with Network Rail to make best use of space for the HS2 maintenance depot and the existing Basford Hall sidings and minimise impact on the surrounding area.
“We estimate there will be about 500 jobs across the four rolling stock and maintenance depots on the Manchester and Leeds routes.”
