HAIR and beauty students proved they were a cut above in an eye-catching annual competition at South Cheshire College.

The contest challenged students to test their skills in a race against the clock, creating hair and beauty styles based around this year’s competition theme - Media and Culture.

Lynda Wakefield, 49, won the hairdressing contest.

She said: “It feels great to win, I’m ecstatic. I came back to college to do hairdressing and this win has made it all worthwhile.”

In the make-up competitions it was a double success for Crewe’s Sophie Thomson, 18, who scooped first prizes in both the 60s make-up and fantasy make-up categories.

Winning students progress to the national finals of their categories at the Blackpool Winter Gardens.
