Sweeney Todd actors take centre stage at Lyceum

Crewe Amatuer Operatic Society (CAMS) will bring an ambitious production of Sweeney Todd to the Lyceum Theatre next month.

The dark musical masterpiece tells the story of the demon barber of Fleet Street, who in 1785 allegedly killed his victims by cutting their throats.

The barbers shop was connected to a local pie shop run by Mrs Lovett by an underground tunnel which brought together the pair as partners in crime.

Scored by Stephen Sondheim in 1979, the musical has been hugely popular ever since, and recently completed another West End run starring Michael Ball as Sweeney.

CAMS have entertained local audiences with musicals since 1924, when they presented Yeomen of the Guard.

CAMS’ production boasts and impressive set, including the infamous barber’s chair.

With a strong local cast, including Dean Lockett Taylor as Sweeney Todd and Jo Stubbs as Mrs Lovet, the society is confident audiences will be amazed by the quality of the production.
