Building work on new multi-million pound operating theatres and critical care facilities has begun at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

The £22.8million project is being supported by Government funding of £21.69million.

The new building will replace the current theatres, along with the existing Intensive Care and High Dependency units, with state-of-the-art services.

Denise Frodsham, Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (MCHFT) chief operating officer, said: “These new facilities will allow us to treat and operate in modern surroundings with the most up-to-date equipment, resulting in an improved hospital experience for those members of the local community who require treatment here.”

The building which will house the new theatres and critical care units will be adjacent to, and integrated with, the hospital’s existing treatment centre, and is expected to be completed in early 2014.

It is all well and good having these new facilities but we need top quality, caring and dedicated staff to go with them. The quality of some of the staff at the moment leaves a lot to be desired. For a start an example of this is when staff in uniform go across the road to the bus shelter to have a smoke and then return to their ward smelling strongly of cigarettes!
