One in five Crewe gas checks find safety failings
9:35am Monday 18th March 2013 in News
CREWE is a gas risk hotspot, with around one in five gas appliances found to be unsafe – according to the UK’s official gas safety group.
Gas Safe is the official register of all certified engineers who work with gas.
For post code CW, which includes Crewe, a total 95 appliances were investigated between June 2011 – July 2012.
Of these 16 were unsafe, having been worked on by unregistered gas engineers.
Russell Kramer, chief executive for Gas Safe Register, said: “Gas safety is a life or death matter. This is therefore a really important campaign, as residents across the North West can find out how unsafe their area is and take action to protect themselves.
“By signing up to have an annual safety check and following a few simple tips, people can avoid explosions, fires, gas escapes and carbon monoxide poisoning, which has already affected far too many people across the North West in recent years.”
