CREWE girls were among 1,700 who took part in the Guinness Book of World Records attempt for the longest line of Riverdance dancers.

Catherine Fraser, Danielle Tweats and Stephanie Creighton from Fraser School of Irish Dancing joined people from over 40 different countries during the event in Dublin on Sunday, July 21.

In order to break the world record, the girls had to dance continuously twice for over 5 minutes whilst linking hands.

Guinness officials were spaced along the 1 kilometre long line of dancers to ensure all dancers danced for the full 10 minutes and the chain was not broken.

The girls from Crewe took their positions on the Samuel Beckett Bridge overlooking the River Liffy along with the other 1691 Irish dancers and Jean Butler, and at 12 noon the famous Riverdance music started and the streets of Dublin rocked with the sound of stamping feet.

By 12.30pm it was confirmed by the Guinness officials that they had smashed the previous record of 652 dancers.

Catherine said: β€œIt was extremely hard and we had put in a lot of practice in the build up to the attempt but to know we broke the World Record was amazing.”

Understandably not all Catherine dancers could fly over to Dublin to take part in the record attempt so in the lead up to the date they have been running specific Riverdance classes at her dance studio in Middlewich Street.

Fraser School of Irish Dance perform in Crewe town centre on the August 10.
