Children enjoy bikes with buddies
4:10pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
DISABLED children at Central Cheshire Buddy Scheme pedalled their way through the summer holidays thanks to the Up and Under Foundation and the Co-Operative Community Fund.
The organisations kindly donated two new bikes to The Cheshire Buddies Saturday Club, based at Shavington Youth Club, and the new equipment has proved a huge hit with members.
Andrew Fewtrell from the Up and Down Foundation, Chief Constable David Whatton and his wife Louise and Michael Binks, the manager of the Shavington Co-Operative, all visited the club to present the new bikes.
Stephanie Lawley, a Buddies leader, said: “We have a number of young people who do not have a bike at the home so when they come to club they just love riding around the centre, as soon as someone gets off the next person jumps on. It is great to see.”
Cheshire Buddies is a voluntary community group which supports children and young people with disabilities to access a range of activities they would not normally have the opportunity to be involved with.
Buddies will continue to run club once a month 10am-3pm. The next club will be on October 5. For more information about Cheshire Buddies contact Stephanie on 07873 423389 or visit cheshirebuddies.co.uk.
