A CREWE man has snapped up second prize in a prestigious maritime photography competition.

Tim Merrick captured the runner up spot in the Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch whisky Sunday Express ‘wish you were here’ contest.

He’ll be drinking to his success, aftter his evocative shot of Durdle Door on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset earned him a bottle of Old Pulteney.

“I’m over the moon to have come second in such a prestigious maritime competition. The photo was taken in Dorset while I was on holiday with a Mamiya C330 medium format camera.

“I’m very much looking forward to enjoying my Old Pulteney and will be practising with my camera for next year’s competition.”

Now in its eighth year, the competition received numerous entries from across the nation.

This year’s competition saw talented amateur photographers capture beautiful and arresting images of the British coastline.

Margaret Mary Clarke, senior brand manager of Old Pulteney, said: “The competition has really gone from strength to strength over the past eight years and the interest we have received has been exceptional.

“Every year we receive more incredible images and we are delighted to be discovering lots of new talent. Tim’s photograph really impressed the judges and we loved the composition and use of the shutter to show movement of the sea. Congratulations to him.”

The competition winner was Simon Malik of West Sussex who won £2,500 and a trip to the Pulteney Distillery in Wick.
