Housing developer and school team up in Shavington
A PARTNERSHIP between a property developer and high school will see Crewe schoolchildren offered hands on experience in the building trade.
Taylor Wimpey – who are proposing to build 275 new houses in Shavington – is teaming up with Shavington High School to allow pupils to get experience various disciplines of construction.
The company will work alongside the school’s design and technology department to deliver a brick laying workshop in September.
Should their £35.5 million proposals to develop East Shavington be passed, the company want to develop the relationship further, offering tastes of a real build environment to pupils and an insight into other areas such as management and sales.
Speaking about the new working relationship, Shavington High School head teacher, Carol White, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for us as a school to offer vocational experience for our pupils in a new and original way.
“We’re really looking forward to developing this partnership and we’re grateful that Taylor Wimpey has taken the time to come and talk to us about its proposals for East Shavington and the ways in which we can work together in the future.”
Taylor Wimpey argues East Shavington would provide a boost for the local economy, 33 direct and 83 indirect jobs and contribute £2.5 million to the local economy.
The development, featuring 30 per cent affordable homes, has been backed by the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, whose chief executive, Paul Colman, said: “In principle we supported the East Shavington site in the Local Plan and Taylor Wimpey’s plans.
“Certainly from an economic perspective, providing the local infrastructure is in place to accommodate it, we are behind proposals such as these that seek to deliver new homes in a sustainable manner and contribute to local growth in South Cheshire.”
