7:00am Friday 18th October 2013 in News
A FORMER star of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing is urging Crewe couples to quick step up to register for a local hospice’s fundraising event.
Flavia Cacace, who won the TV show with Olympian, Louis Smith, wants the town’s residents to take part in Winsford St Luke’s Strictly Learn to Dance 2014.
Organisers are hoping to attract 20 couples, who over the course of 3 months will be transformed into confident dancers at lessons in Crewe, organised by Dancebasics dance school.
Flavia said: “Dancing is a fantastic way to keep fit, stay healthy, motivated and have fun at the same time you can show your support to a very worthwhile cause so put on your dancing shoes and get on the dance floor.”
From January 29, regular Rock n Roll and Waltz tuition, of 45 minutes per week will be given to all the participants in Crewe, every Wednesday evening.
The event will culminate in a Grand Finale at Nantwich Civic Hall on Sunday, May 18, in which a panel of judges will watch the couples dance and pick an overall winner.
Participants will be asked to register and commit to raise a minimum sponsorship of £600 per couple.
Tickets for the Grand Finale will be on sale from late April to raise money for St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice, which cares for sufferers of cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Nicola Jepson, Senior Fundraising Events Co-Ordinator, said: “This event has been a tremendous success over the last two years and has raised over £40,000 for the Hospice. As well as being a successful fundraiser it is very much a fun event to take part in.
“We’re delighted to have Flavia’s support and I hope her words of encouragement will inspire couples to take to the floor for a wonderful cause.”
