Nantwich Town Council, organisers of the Nantwich Christmas Lights Switch-On hailed this year’s event as a big success, after the annual event took place.

Crowds gathered on Saturday evening in and around the square to see local celebrity dancers AJ and Chloe perform, plus Malbank School Choir together with other seasonal entertainments perform on stage. The lights were switched on by TV vet Steve Leonard, who is also local to the town. The event was capped off by a spectacular firework finale by Blitz Fireworks , which drew gasps of delight from the many watching children.

A hog roast, Father Christmas Grotto, and children’s fairground added to the festivities, and there were carols and mulled wine in Cocoa Yard.

Nantwich Town Council Deputy Mayor Christine Farrall, whose town centre and retail forum played a lead role in organising the event told us: “It’s been busy all day in Nantwich, as many people took our advice to get here early and enjoy what the town has to offer. The fair and the Farmers’ Market were on all day, and many of the shops have made an extra effort to make Nantwich a delightful Christmas shopping destination. Through the support of local businesses, we were able to publicise the event more extensively than in previous years and this seems to have had an impact. We were also pleased to see so many children and families coming along to help us celebrate the start of the Christmas period in Nantwich”.

“We are always looking at ways to attract more footfall into Nantwich, as the success of our local shops and businesses is quite reliant on that, so events like this are important. They also add to the atmosphere of the town, which attracts our visitors and helps make Nantwich a special place to live”.
