Peter Ollerhead’s Crewe Then & Now approaches history through a completely new format. This book does not contain stuffy facts and tired figures.

Instead, Peter Ollerhead’s book has taken a contrasting collection of vivid vintage photography from around the town and placed it alongside stunning modern equivalents.

Witness the town’s startling development over the last century through these evocative images.

From its conception as a railway colony in the 1800’s, to the vast industrial development of the 1900’s, and finally to the Crewe of today: a vibrant centre of culture, history and railway heritage.

• A collection of 45 vintage and modern images focusing on different locations around the town • Traces the dramatic changes that have occurred across the town over the last century • Includes historic events such as the heavy bomb damage sustained during World War II • Each set of images is accompanied by an in-depth explanation of the area’s historical significance • Covers areas including Market Square and its distinctive red brick buildings, Christ Church and Burtons Corner The author Peter Ollerhead served an apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce from 1952 to 1958, and worked there until the mid-1960s.

He left to train as a teacher, and retired in 1998. Peter now runs a bookshop in Crewe and is a keen local historian.
