YOUNGSTERS braved new heights by taking part in a fun Climbing Challenge at South Cheshire College.

The Crewe and Nantwich Lions Club teamed up with the College to host the Snowdon Challenge.

Kids between 8-10 from schools and clubs across the area were invited to take part in the free event on the impressive state-of-the-art climbing wall in the college’s sports arena.

Ten teams of ten children embarked on ten climbs of the wall to complete a total of 1,000 metres of climbing during the day – equivalent to the height of Mount Snowdon, which is the highest peak in Wales.

Trampolining and other fun activities were also available in the college’s sports arena.

Crewe and Nantwich Lions supports numerous local initiatives and helps others by raising money for worthy causes.

Donations to the President’s nominated charity, which is Springfield School in Crewe, were made on the day.

Tom Dunlop, President of the Crewe and Nantwich Lions club, worked closely with the College to bring the event to fruition.

Tom will hand over a cheque to the school at the end of his year as president, which will be the culmination of different fundraising activities.

Money raised will help to furnish the school’s new building and help to support the children’s individual and learning needs.

Graham Chafer, head of community leisure at South Cheshire College, said: “We were delighted that lots of young people came along to take part in the Snowdon Challenge.

“This is the first time that we have staged such an event and we were pleased to support the Crewe and Nantwich Lions Club by helping them to raise money for Springfield School which is a very worthy local cause.

“This was a fun event for local children and we enjoyed hosting it. We are hoping to organise similar events in the future.”

Tom Dunlop added: “This was an excellent day and we received lots of donations for a very worthy cause.

“We are very grateful to Graham and the College for hosting this event which brought young people from the local community together.”
