According to a study by VoucherCodes.co.uk and the Centre for Retail Research (CRR), today is set to be busiest day of the year for in-store shopping, with the latest forecast suggesting 13 million shoppers across the UK will spend £1,280 million on ‘Panic Saturday’ alone1.
High street retailers hoping this weekend will provide a boost to unusually slow December sales will be inundated with last-minute panic buyers spending at a rate of £2.24million per minute2 – or £134.7million per hour - throughout the day.
Consumers hitting the high street will be looking to stock up on Christmas gifts and household items each spending £98.46 during their festive spree3. Christmas Eve is likely to be the biggest day for grocery shopping as Brits choose to pick up their Christmas Dinner fayre in-store, rather than rely on last-minute online deliveries.
Reports from the Centre for Retail Research also suggest December 25th will be a huge day for online shopping as bargain hunters choose to start their sales shopping early.
