A MAN from Crewe has died following a road traffic collision in Nantwich this morning.

The collision occurred at 4.50 a.m. on Monday 23 December 2013, and involved a silver Vauxhall Astra travelling along the A51 towards the A500, and a white DAF articulated lorry with trailer travelling in the opposite direction towards Chester.

The driver of the car, a man in his fifties from Crewe, suffered serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: “He was taken by ambulance to Leighton Hospital, where despite the efforts of medical staff he sadly died of his injuries.

“His family have been informed. The lorry driver was shaken but not seriously injured.

Following the collision, the road was closed between the Peacock Roundabout, Junction of A51 and A534, and the Chearbrook Roundabout, Junction A500 and A51.

The exact location of the crash was about 100 yards off the A500 from the Chearbrook Roundabout, on the A51.

Emergency services are at the scene working towards re-opening the road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision itself, or for information from anyone who may not have directly witnessed the collision, but who may have information which could assist the Police Collision Investigator.
