CHESHIRE East Council has granted permission to build 107 new affordable homes on the site of the former Victoria Community High School.

Built in the 1930s, the former Victoria Community High School had more recently been known as the Ludford Centre and was used as a community centre.

Plans to create affordable housing on the Badger Avenue site were put forward by Renew Land Developments and approved by council on December 11.

Richard Lee of Richard Lee Project Planning, who has acted as consultant to Renew Land on the scheme, said the project would provide ‘much needed’ affordable housing from Crewe.

Work will begin in January, with the first phase due for completion in March 2015.

Renew Land also plan to develop the former Rockwood pub in Crewe and place 1,000 homes at the White Moss Quarry site in Alsager.
