THE Mother of a Crewe boy with a sever muscle wasting condition is encouraging people to get involved with two adventurous fundraisers this year.

Karen Robinson, whose six-year-old son, Thomas, has muscular dystrophy, is challenging Crewe residents to walk the length of the Great Wall of China or take part in a 14,000 ft skydive to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign (MDC).

“There was no history of the disease in our family so Thomas' diagnosis came as an awful shock,” said Karen.

“Thomas knows he has 'poorly legs', but he loves to dance and ride his bike. He quickly gets tired and can't keep up with his friends, but his taste for an adventure never fails.

“He is a lovely, cheeky, typical six-year-old boy full of fun and mischief and makes us laugh everyday. He definitely keeps us all going.”

MDC’s make today count campaign on March 1 will see a hundred people skydive around the UK to represent the hundred children born each year with the condition.

Aspiring dare-devils wishing to join the group, dubbed Team 100, will be asked to raise £399 sponsorship for their efforts, and can choose from a variety of skydive sites across Great Britain.

Then in October, a group of trekkers will embark on a tough journey along the Great Wall of China, braving freezing temperatures and 80kms of rugged path and stairways.

Those taking part in the Great Wall challenge are asked to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship. For information via muscular-dystrophy.org/overseaschallenge.
