HIGH-flying students at South Cheshire College were picked from thousands of applicants countrywide to take part in a specialist science placement.

Louise Baddeley and Connor Read took part in the Nuffield Research Placements which gave them a clearer insight into the world of science and the working environment.

The duo were selected from hopefulsup and down the country and spent four weeks learning from top science professionals and researchers.

Louise joined Kew Gardens in London while Connor linked up with the Atmospheric Physics department at University College London.

Louise, 18, of Crewe, said: “I was tasked with researching into a form of forest fungi and its ecology which was very interesting.

“Ecology is an area of science I want to go into, so this intense placement gave me a much better idea of what to expect.

“I’d definitely encourage students to apply to take part in this placement scheme because it’s an opportunity not to be missed.”

Connor, 18, of Crewe, added: “The Nuffield placement was one of the best things I’ve done while I’ve been at college – it was very rewarding.

“It put a whole different perspective on science and it’s well worth doing, particularly if you have got a definite Science career in mind.”
