A CAR dealership is steering a charity towards success in Crewe with its second major donation.

The family-run Swansway Group has presented £2,000 to Beanstalk, a national literacy charity that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading.

That came hot on the heels of £2,000 handed to the charity by company director David Smyth just before Christmas.

Area fundraising manager Gail Washington said: “This donation will allow these children to develop their self-confidence through literacy. They can progress in their education and release their full potential in life. A big thank you to Swansway for their support.”

The Group, which operates Audi, Volkswagen and Seat dealerships in Crewe, was keen to see the money spent in the town.

David Smyth, who runs the business with his father and two brothers, said: “Learning to read is quite a magical thing and opens up the world to children and we believe Beanstalk is vital in helping children to access this special world. We share its vision of a nation of confident children who can read and thus grow up to lead successful lives.”

The charity aims to combat the disadvantages linked with illiteracy including poor health, poverty, crime and unemployment.
