UPDATE: Roads closed as Crewe Herbert Street smoke plume drifts towards Sandbach
POLICE have closed Sydney Road at its junction with Lansdowne Road and Wheatley Road while firefighters work to control a large blaze in Crewe.
A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said: "A number of houses have been evacuated and the fire is causing large plumes of smoke.
"Anyone who sees the smoke, which has spread towards Sandbach, should ensure they keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution."
