A CREWE optician is asking is asking members of the public to donate their old and unwanted glasses during ‘random acts of kindness week’.

Specsavers on Market Street will be setting up collection bins in store during the nationwide initiative, which encourage people to perform impromptu good deeds between February 10-16.

Glasses will be recycled to raise money for Vision Aid Overseas, which gives people in developing countries access to eye care.

Specsavers Crewe’s store director, Michael Elleray, said: “Eye care is something that we take for granted in the UK because there is an optician on almost every high street.

“For people in developing countries this is not the case, and as a result children are unable to finish their education, parents cannot work to support their families and some grandparents have never seen their grandchildren.”
