WORK is due to commence on an improved visitor entrance at Leighton Hospital.

The current canopy will be replaced by a modern glass-fronted facade, which will include an 80-seater cafe alongside a new shop.

A new ATM cash machine will also be installed as part of the works, while the bicycle shelter outside the main entrance will be relocated onsite.

While the works are taking place, a temporary shop, café and toilet facilities have been provided in the courtyard area opposite the current temporary entrance.

Diversions will be signposted in and around the hospital to minimise inconvenience to patients and visitors.

The refurbishment, set to last until June, is the latest of a number of building projects taking place at Leighton Hospital.

Elsewhere, work on a new multi-million pound theatres and intensive care unit is nearing completion and is set to treat its first patients in early April.

A new charity-funded neonatal intensive care unit is set to open at the end of August along with a renovated postnatal ward.

Improvements to the outpatients hall, set to commence in April, will see the main waiting area updated and refreshed.
