A 62-year-old man was arrested following an incident in Crewe town centre yesterday afternoon, Monday March 3.
At 1.45pm police received a report from a bank on Victoria Street that a man had entered the bank and made verbal threats toward staff. He was escorted from the premises by security staff.
Minutes later the man was approached by two uniformed female police officers on Queensway.
At this point the man produced a kitchen-type knife and made attempts to attack the officers. He was restrained and captor spray was used to temporarily incapacitate him.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
The man remains in police custody where he will be interviewed in due course.
