SOUTH Cheshire College students ventured to the bright lights of Paris to learn more about the world of media at a special conference.

More than 70 Media students spent two days at the Disneyland Paris resort where they attended the ‘Media Live’ conference.

High-profile figures from the world of television, print media and film classification were guest speakers at the one-day conference.

They included TV Presenter and Producer Kate Russell, Lucy Brett from the British Board of Film Classification and David Aaronovitch from The Times.

Students who took part in the trip included AS and A-Level Media and BTEC Level 3 90 Credit and Extended Diploma Media students and the group were accompanied by lecturers Lynn Simpson, Iain Fox and Linda Buchanan.

During the visit to the French capital, students also had chance to explore the city and boost their knowledge outside the classroom.

Students Luke Page and Emma Barnes were two of the students who benefited from the conference and the Paris experience.

Emma, 17, of Wybunbury, said: “The whole experience was great and it was brilliant to hear from media professionals who have worked in the industry for a long time and have been there and done it.

“The conference helped me to build my knowledge of the media industry and it also put a whole new perspective on media at the same time.”

Luke, 17, of Wybunbury, added: “The conference was interesting and the BBFC lecture also helped to reinforce my knowledge after attending a BBFC seminar in college earlier this year.”

Students travelled to France by bus through the Eurotunnel and stayed in the Cheyenne Hotel during their two day visit.

Linda Buchanan, Media Lecturer at South Cheshire College, said: “This was the first time that our students had attended the conference in Paris and it was a wonderful experience for them.

“The visit broadened their knowledge from an educational point of view and also gave them the chance to experience a completely different city and culture.”
