CREWE Town Council is to mark the centenary of the First World War by distributing poppy seeds to town residents.
The town council took delivery of 1,000 postcards each with an individual packet of poppy seeds.
The postcards are part of the council’s commemorations of the anniversary of the start of the Great War in 1914 and will distributed in the town centre in early July to those that wish to plant the seeds and remember the fallen.
The seeds will be distributed by two supporters who should be easily recognised as they will be dressed as a Soldier and Nurse of the Great War.
Clr Joy Bratherton, who leads on the WW1 commemorations for the town council, said: “The poppy is a symbol of Remembrance and this gesture is part of Crewe Town Council's commitment to remember the sacrifice of all those who served and those who fell.
“We would ask the residents of Crewe to accept these poppy seeds in good faith and plant them in their gardens or where ever they see appropriate as an act of genuine remembrance.”
