TWO Nantwich-born members of Cheshire’s Special Constabulary are set to hit the nation’s television screens in a series of documentaries which follow the path of their early policing life.

‘First Time on the Front Line’, due to be aired on BBC One at 11.30am on weekdays from Monday, April 28, will focus on a number of Specials including two from the Nantwich area.

Laurence Towers, a self-employed landscape gardener in Nantwich, and Amber-Louise Evans, a student at the University of Chester who was born in Nantwich, both star in the series.

Their journey includes practical training sessions, life in the classroom studying policing theories and shadowing senior officers in order to prepare them for a career in the force.

Ass Chief Con Janette McCormick said: "Being a Special Constable opens up a world of opportunity to gain skills and experiences, perhaps unlike any other walk of life.

“Our Specials are an integral part of the wider police family. Not only does their uniform presence reassure communities, but they bring vast experience from the range of professions with life skills.

“At a time when public confidence has been impacted in a very transparent way they bring the public into policing to build trust."

Members of the public that are interested in joining Cheshire′s Special Constabulary can find out more about the recruitment process by attending an awareness seminars – the next will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 12pm.
