CRICKETERS have been bowled over after seeing part of their clubhouse interior refurbished by handy students at South Cheshire College.

The Bench Joinery Level 3 Diploma group struck up a partnership with Elworth Cricket Club to revamp its kitchen serving hatch.

Students have produced new wood panelling for the serving area of the clubhouse which now matches up with the woodwork on the front of the bar.

The college approached the cricket club to see if students could help out with any work that needed doing before getting stuck into the job in hand.

They produced the panels in the college woodwork workshops before heading out to the cricket club for a day to fit them and apply the finishing touches to their work.

Officials at the club, near Sandbach, are delighted with the new look serving area which they say has needed replacing for some time.

Elworth Cricket Club Chairman David Buckley said: “We are extremely pleased with the work that students have done and now the kitchen area is in keeping with the bar.

“The college asked us if there was anything we needed doing and we were delighted that students stepped in to help.

“The clubhouse is a very popular facility and it is used before and after matches and for numerous functions throughout the year.”
