BUDDING chefs from Wyche Primary and Nursery School in Nantwich enjoyed taking part in Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Pupils joined forces with youngsters from around the world to take part in a record-breaking cookery lesson on Friday, May 23.

Schools in 121 countries around the world took part in the day, which aimed to set the record for the most participants in a cookery lesson in 24 hours.

With the help of kidzkitchen, the children pulled on their aprons to make healthy rainbow salad wraps as part of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day 2014 on Friday.

The pupils watched a video of Jamie showing them how to make the tasty dish before heading off to make their own versions.

Tracey Cooke, who runs cookery business kidzkitchen and organised the day, said: “The day was a huge success.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own rainbow salad wraps. They learnt how to grate vegetables and create salad dressings. More importantly, they learnt that cooking is fun.”

Teaching assistant, Emma Bird was impressed with the children’s cookery skills and said: “We were delighted to be able to participate in this world wide cookery lesson. It was just a shame that Jamie Oliver wasn’t here in person to help the children.”

Headteacher Wei Lee was pleased that the children were trying new vegetables and said: “Many of the children were telling me about vegetables that they had never tried before and were surprised that they liked them.

“Thank you to kidzkitchen for providing all of the ingredients for free. The children were provided with trays to take the rainbow salad wraps home, but the children loved them so much they were guzzled up before they’d left the hall.”
