CREWE’S promotion chances were dropped into conversation by the current England boss as the Three Lions continue preparations for World Cup 2014.
Roy Hodgson name-dropped The Railwaymen ahead of England’s friendly against Ecuador on Wednesday, July 4 – the penultimate match the team will play before meeting Italy in their first group game in Brazil.
When challenged on his knowledge of Ecuadorian football, the former Fulham boss responded: “That’s a bit like me asking what you think of Crewe Alexandra’s chances of getting out of the second division.”
But if a picture taken by a Guardian reader this week is anything to go by, Alex’s path to promotion might be paved with gold.
Reader, DP Hughes, snapped this rainbow rising above Gresty Road after a summer shower.
Perhaps it’s a good omen that riches lie in wait for the Railwaymen next season...
