A LIFE-LONG Crewe Alexandra fan is hoping to raise nearly £7,000 for charity this summer.

Karl Brooks, 24, from Weaverham, Northwich, wrote a tweet in March saying that he would clean all 6,908 seats in Alex’s main stand should Crewe survive relegation from League One.

As it was retweeted by ITV News and BBC Sport amongst others, Karl is sticking to his word, and wants to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK in the process.

Karl, a customer service assistant at Knutsford Services, said: “Prostate Cancer have been really helpful and said it’s such a unique challenge as no one has done it before.

“The World Cup will take centre-stage this summer but as soon as it is finished they will try and promote it in every way possible.

“Ideally I would like to raise £1 per seat so I’m hoping to raise at least £6,908 for the charity.”

Although there has been no official date confirmed, Crewe Alex has said it is happy for him to complete the challenge in August but Karl admits it may take a little longer than expected.

“Initially I thought I’d spend a day doing it but I reckon it will be two or three days now,” he added. “When nobody is in there it looks a lot bigger than on a match day when the stand is full of people.”

Karl has no direct link with Prostate Cancer UK but chose it as the desired charity given its status as one of the main charities associated with League One this season.

Of course, Karl is certainly associated with The Alex – his father and brother support them and he has been a season ticket holder for the last couple of years and a fan since he was five years old. To sponsor Karl or for more details visit justgiving.com/karl-brooks1.
