THE annual Wybunbury Fig Pie Wakes took place on Saturday, June 7.

The event challenges locals to see how far they can roll a fig pie along Main Road from the Swan Inn pub.

Organised by the Wybunbury Tower Preservation Trust, the tradition dates back at least 200 years.

After stopping in 1920 it was resurrected in 1993, with proceeds supporting various local good causes.

Crewe and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson rolled the first fig pie.

The under tens race was won by Daniel McKenna with 54 metres, the under 16s was won by Joe Wright with 50 metres and the Adult race was won by Mike Guilliard with an impressive 113 metres.

The day saw the village’s famous leaning church tower was open to the public, as well as various games and attractions including a display of steam traction engines.
