A MAN has appeared in court following the alleged stabbing of a man in Crewe.

Dlair Mahmood, 38, of Bateman Close, Crewe, was put before South Cheshire Magistrates on Tuesday, June 17, charged with Section 18 wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

It follows the report of an incident which took place in Vernon Street, off Underwood Lane, Crewe, just after 2pm on Sunday June 15.

Police and the ambulance service were called to the incident, where a 23-year-old man was found to have sustained a stab wound to his torso.

The man remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Officers from Crewe neighbourhood policing team could be seen guarding the scene on Sunday, which remains sealed off by police incident tape.

Inspector Christian Watkins said “Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have been a witness to this assault, and I would like to take this opportunity to reassure our local community that we firmly believe that this was an isolated incident, and that police are now working to establish the background and the circumstances around it.”

A 27-year-old woman arrested following the incident has been released without charge.

Mr Mahmood entered no plea to the charge and was sent in custody to appear before Chester Crown Court on July 2.
