HUNDERDS of revellers flocked to the annual Wistaston Village Fete at St Mary's Church Rectory on Saturday, June 21.

The event began with a procession from Wistaston Memorial Hall led by Scottish Piper John Beattie, followed by the 35th South West Cheshire Scout group, St Mary’s Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, and a Chinese Dragon.

Outgoing Rose Queen, Naomi Barker, thanked Wistonians for their support during her year’s reign, during which she raised £2,700 for Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

New queen, Lucy Rowland, announced her chosen charities as Cancer Research UK and the Wistaston Scout Group.

Winner of the children’s fancy dress contest was five-year-old Stirling Marsh from Wistaston for his Rocket Man costume, while his two-year-old brother, Samson, received second prize for his Robin – Batman's sidekick – costume.

The Arena held displays by the Scouts, TheFunkyChoir.com, the Hartford Gymnastics Display Team and Miss Caroline’s School of Dance.

Entertainer, Twizzle Gumboot the friendly scarecrow, kept kids and adults entertained throughout the day.

More than 30 stalls representing local organisations and charities dressed to represent a different country competing at the World Cup, with Shavington Drama Group’s Costa Rica theme taking first prize.

The Wistaston Community Council needs new members to help organise next year’s Fete.
