A CREWE school playground has received a makeover thanks to a team of young adults on Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Prince’s Trust personal development programme.

The makeover was supported by partner organisations Wulvern, Job Centre Plus and Cheshire East Council.

The team of fourteen 16 to 23-year-olds from The Prince's Trust Team 42 chose the project to spruce up the play area at Mablins Lane Community Primary School, which is used by more than 70 children in the Early Years Foundation Stage classes.

Part of a twelve week course designed to help develop young people's skills and confidence through practical community projects and work experience, the refurbishment took two weeks and included landscaping, painting, creating a race track and an interactive railway station to support learning though play, one of the key elements of Foundation Stage education.

Prince’s Trust Project Manager Sarah McCreadie was instrumental in organising the team.

She said: “The team have worked extremely hard to complete the project in two weeks and I am very proud of their achievements and commitment to the programme.”

Deputy Head Teacher Jenny Wagstaff added: “We were delighted that The Prince’s Trust selected our project to work on. The play area has been given a new lease of life and will be enjoyed by all the children who will benefit from all the fabulous new features.”

The next Prince's Trust Team in Crewe starts in September. Anyone aged between 16 and 25 years who would like to gain qualifications, improve motivation, self-confidence and be part of a Prince's Team can apply by calling Sarah McCreadie on 07837 121523.
