Crewe nursery re-opens following vegetable oil leak

A CREWE nursery was closed after nearby plant machine sprayed an unknown substance onto the playground.

Health and Safety teams investigated the incident at Westminsiter Street Nursery in Nelson Street on Wednesday, July 2 and found the substance to be vegetable oil.

The nursery is now open for business as normal.

A council spokesman confirmed: “As soon as Cheshire East Council became aware of the incident on Wednesday, our health and safety teams began investigating immediately.

“We can confirm that the substance released from a hydraulic pipe, connected to a digger, was a fine spray of harmless vegetable oil, which reached a nearby playground as well as the nursery premises.

“As a precautionary measure, it was decided by the chair of governors to close the nursery and health and safety teams closed off the nearby playground.

“We can confirm that the nursery has now reopened and that the nearby playground is also open to the public.”
