A WOMAN has been killed after being hit by a train on the line in Nantwich.

The woman was on the track close to Sound Lane in Nantwich when she was hit by an Arriva train early on Tuesday, July 29.

The incident involved the 5.40am train from Cardiff to Manchester and had 80 passengers on board at the time.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to the line close to Sound Lane in Nantwich, Cheshire on Tuesday, 29 July after a report that a woman had been struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP and Cheshire Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 8.24am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. 

“Medics from North West Ambulance Service also attended, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are currently working to identify the deceased and officers will assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner."

Trains were stopped between Shrewsbury and Crewe for around three hours after the incident with buses available for passengers.

Normal train services were resumed at around 11am.

While trains were stopped to deal with the incident, Arriva Trains Wales tweeted: “Arriva Trains Wales would like to thank passengers currently affected by this incident for their patience, we hope to store service asap.”
