CREWE Town Council have promised residents a summer of fun, announcing plans to have entertainment in the Town Centre every Saturday of August.

As the school holidays start, the council say it is more important than ever to make the town centre a fun and welcoming place for young people and families.

“I am really looking forward to popping into town on Saturdays to see just what is happening,” said Clr Kevin Hickson, leader of Crewe Town Council.

“This is an initiative we have been planning for a few months and I’m gratified that we have already had such support from businesses in the town.

“This will help our resources go further and we have agreed to match the funding received so far so that we can make Saturdays in Crewe that little bit better.”

Companies including Alextra Accountants, County Insurance and Wulvern Housing, have already committed to back the campaign.

Clr Joy Bratherton, chair of the community and environment committee, thanked the businesses who have already signed up to support Crewe Saturday’s.

“This is an idea that came from business leaders and we want to make the most of it and build links to all the great business in the town," she said.

“If you are a Crewe based business looking for promotional opportunities in Crewe, then why not take the chance to sponsor a performer in return for some great publicity?

“Businesses who have something exciting to promote, may ask the town council to use the Market Square to promote their business. The council will waive the booking fee to Crewe based businesses.”

She added: “It is your square, why not uses it to build the economy in Crewe?"
